If you're thinking about downsizing from a foamie or mini-mal, or you're just after a sturdy and reliable shortboard with some additional float, BIC's 6'7" shortboard is a candidate that demands your attention. It's a classic example "first shortboard", designed to help with that difficult transition from a bigger board.

The plan shape is slightly wider than your standard shortboard, and fuller throughout. The aim here is to provide extra paddle power (crucial for maximising wave count), stability (key to boosting your make-rate on tricky take-offs), and glide (helping you keep momentum between turns and over slower sections of the wave).

Younger surfers will find it an excellent beginner board. For intermediates, it will put you on a fast track to superior shredding, helping you make your first proper turns and accelerating your rate of improvement. Meanwhile more experienced surfers will have enough refinement and performance under their feet for cutbacks and aggressive top turns.

Like all the BICs we sell, this board is 100% made in France, built from start to finish in the BIC factory in Brittany. DURA-TEC, BIC's flagship surfboard construction, is what's made the brand such a force in the intermediate market. It's the ultimate in "ding-free performance" – extremely resilient and hard-wearing yet still light and nimble so as not to impede progression.
