The Shake is Maluku’s round-nosed, diamond-tailed, high-volume solution to all your small-wave woes. It's a little gem of a board – and it’s now available as a Gold Level ECOBOARD!
This is the highest certification awarded by Sustainable Surf, who deemed the materials used in its construction to meet their Gold Level standards (at least 25% either recycled or bio-carbon content in the foam core, which must then be glassed using plant-based resin with low VOC plus at least 25% bio-carbon content). The Maluku factory in Cornwall also had to undergo a comprehensive lifecycle assessment, focussing on carbon footprint, toxicity and recycling. As a result of all this, Maluku has become the first and only surfboard manufacturer in the UK to offer Gold Level ECOBOARDS.
Features:
Construction: Gold Level ECOBOARD, featuring an EPS blank (25% recycled, 100% recyclable) by Marko Foam and Bio Sap Entropy epoxy resin
Fin System: Futures
Fin Set-Up: 5-fin (can be surfed as a thruster or a quad)
Outline: Short and wide with relatively parallel rails through the mid-section and pulled in through tail
Nose: Round nose
Tail: Subtle diamond that provides multiple pivot points for sharper turns
Rocker: Low entry rocker (through the nose) to flat mid-section with moderate tail lift
Concave: Single to double concave with a rolled "vee" in the nose and a slight "vee" through the fins
Rider Ability: Intermediate to advanced
Suitable Conditions: 1-5ft
The Maluku Shake Eco Gold was designed and built with one main aim: to make one of the world’s most sustainable surfboards, and to do so without sacrificing performance. The factory it’s made in recycles all its foam and runs on a renewable energy contract; the board is made from a recycled Marko foam blank and bio-resin; the Futures fin boxes have been chosen so it can be ridden with the new Netplus fins, which are made from retrieved ghost fishing nets.
The board itself is a short and playful small-wave weapon, combining almost mid-length float and glide with the snappy manoeuvrability of a shortboard. It’s a bundle of fun – the volume up-front makes for easy paddling and entry, the rolled vee adds a slight retro touch, favouring smooth lines and stopping the round nose from pearling, but the tail is sufficiently refined to enable a more vertical line of attack. Another winner from Bill Atlee and the Maluku crew.
